We’ve completed our first quarter of homeschool for the 2020-2021 school year, so today i thought i would give an update on how our first quarter went.
We’ve finished 2 books in literature, so far. We are doing The Waldock Way’s – Passport To Adventures, which has us reading The Magic Treehouse Series. I’m not a huge fan of this “curriculum”, i feel like for $40 you don’t get much. You get lists of extra things you should/could buy for each book (toys for sensory bins, games, puzzles, etc.), but i feel like that is something you could just come up with on your own without spending the money on it.
Spanish is going remarkably well. The kids are retaining all the new words they are learning really well. I highly recommend Flip Flop Spanish!! Even my 4 year old is speaking Spanish.
We have finished up our first unit in History, which was all about Ancient Greece & Ancient Asia. My 7th grader enjoyed learning about the caste system and my 4th grader enjoyed learning about what life was like for children in Ancient Greece.
In Science we have finished our first unit study, which was on Arthropods. The kids all loved the different experiments we did, like using our sense of smell to find our “hive” (cotton balls with essential oils on them).
Everything has been going really well. We’ve been liking our schedule and having Monday’s off has been great.
