House/Life Updates

Hi Guys!

It’s been awhile since i’ve updated on how things are going with the new house, animals, etc. So today i thought would be a good day to share all that.

My parents visited last month and while they were here they built us an amazing chicken coop!

My girls are so spoiled!

*This photo was taken before the chicken coop got painted red.*

Speaking of the chickens, they are all still doing really well. Hazel, our crooked beak chicken, is struggling to gain weight. However, we think we have found a better way for her to eat and she seems to be doing well.

Welcome To The Farmhouse

Hi Guys!

I have really wanted to just sit down and share with you all the after pictures of all work we have done to our new house. Ever since we signed the papers and got the keys to the house we have been super busy with projects going on, on the inside and outside. So i think what i will do is share what has been done, and why it was done, along with what we are still wanting to accomplish.

31682434_1804233036303055_2088813359649521664_n

I’ll start with the inside first.

What has been done:

  • new paint on the trim/base/doors/woodwork,
  • new paint on the walls
  • new paint on the ceiling
  • new paint on the cabinets
  • new carpet throughout house
  • added some base that was missing in the upstairs room
  • deep cleaned entire house
  • fixed 2 toilets that weren’t working properly

Here are some before & after pictures of the interior

new house 2

new house 3

In case you are one of those people asking why? The house looked move in ready in the before pictures, so why did you spend so much time/energy/money on painting everything and ripping out/replacing carpets??? I’ll explain a little bit.

Well, our house is in the country. In the country mice are very present. We bought the house with the knowledge that mice were present/or had been present in the house.

So our first plan of attack once we got the keys was to see just how bad the problem was, is it a current problem or a past problem, and then go from there. There was a ton of mice droppings in our garage and some throughout the house. However we haven’t seen any live mice in the house, yet. So it appears to be a past problem, but it was needing a good cleaning up from.

We felt like for the safety of our children, giving them a fresh clean house was absolutely necessary.

So that’s what’s been going on inside the house.

Future plans for inside the house would be to maybe either replace the current hardwood floors, or just give them a makeover. Not sure yet if/when that would happen. We also would like to redo the master bathroom’s shower and tub, once again not sure if/when that would happen.

That’s about it for inside the house.

Here’s what has been done to the exterior:

  • backyard has been scrapped
  • 2 corrals have been scrapped
  • topsoil has been layed down near the house

before and after pictures

new house 4

We really needed to scrap the yard it was filled with nasty weeds, especially a ton of goat heads. Oh, how i hate goat heads!

Here are the plans for the yard:

The 2 corrals that we had scrapped are going to be used for a chicken coop. We plan to seal around it with wire fencing, and built a little something in there for chickens.

The back half of the backyard we will eventually use for growing fruits and veggies. That will happen next year.

The front half of the backyard we will lay down sod and put up a fence, that way little babies and future puppies won’t be able to escape. That should happen within the next week or two.

The front of the house, we are still debating on what we are going to do with it. So no plans as of yet for it.

We do plan to eventually build a shop somewhere on the property. And there is talk of building a little school house also on the property. We’ll see what happens though.

I hope you have all enjoyed this little update on the house and that i’m not completely boring you with non-stop blog posts about our new house. I promise to get back to my regular content soon.

Spring Clean Series {Day 5 – Kitchen}

Hi Guys!

I’m back with my 5th and final day in my Spring Clean Series.

spring clean series

I know i already talked about my pantry on Day 1, however i felt like the kitchen itself needed a blog post because it is a troublesome area in my house.

IMG_3849

This blog post is going to be different because there are no before and after pictures. I am going to share with you, how i keep my kitchen clean and organized though.

Here are a few of my tips to keep your kitchen tidy:

  • Try not to leave too much stuff out on the counters – Not only does it make the kitchen look cluttered, it takes up precious counter space. I only leave out those things that i use pretty much every day (can opener, coffee pot, Knife set, etc.).
  • Do dishes after every meal – This helps to not have so many dishes piled up and overflow.
  • At least once a month go through and organize cupboards – This is a good time to throw out that plastic storage container that you can’t find the lid for.

That’s it! I hope you have enjoyed my Spring Clean Series.

Spring Clean Series {Day 4 – Office}

Hi Guys!

Today is Day 4 of my Spring Clean Series.

spring clean series

I’m going to tackle my home office today, and boy is it a disaster.

IMG_3923

Truth be told i don’t think i have really cleaned my office for at least over a month, yikes! There are blankets on the couch from when my kids used them to make a tent. There are papers laying all over the place. And of course half filled boxes for our upcoming move.

IMG_3927

I’m so glad i cleaned this room today! It feels so much better to sit at my desk and type up this blog post in a clean space.

IMG_3932

Are you doing any spring cleaning? What room is your most trouble spot?

Tomorrow, i will share my 5th and final day of my spring clean series. Be sure to come back tomorrow to see that!

Spring Clean Series {Day 3 – Laundry Room}

Hi Guys!

I’m back with day 3 of my Spring Clean Series!

spring clean series

Today i’m sharing my laundry room with you all.

IMG_3909

Because our laundry room leads out to the garage, this area gets a lot of traffic. With kids coming in and out of the garage, to go outside and play. This area becomes a dump all; shoes, toys, jackets, etc. can be found laying around here at any given time.

IMG_3913

I can’t blame it all on the kids though, i’m guilty myself of dumping out receipts (and anything else) from my purse here.

IMG_3910

Here is how i usually organize my laundry room:

  • Keep extra: cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, and diapers up on the high shelf.
  • On the lower shelf i keep: diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer (when kids come in from playing with friends they immediately sanitize their hands), laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc.

IMG_3917

It feels good to have a clean and organized laundry room, even though it will probably only stay clean & organized for like 5 minutes.

Thanks for reading today’s blog post! Stop by again tomorrow for day 4 of my Spring Clean Series!

Spring Clean Series {Day 2 – Closets}

Hey Guys!

I’m back for day 2 of my spring clean series, and today i’m tackling closets!

spring clean series

I have so many closets in my house, that trying to cover them all in this blog post would be difficult and probably extremely boring for you.

So, in an effort to keep this short and sweet, i’m going to share just a few of them and my method for organizing them (just like yesterday’s pantry post).

I’ll start with my kid’s bathroom closet…

IMG_3885

It’s really not in that bad of shape, i try to go in there every few weeks and tidy it back up. Today is a laundry day (what day isn’t a laundry day in our household of 7), so their towels are being washed. I grabbed a few that we cleaned and folded them to show where they would go in their closet.

Also, that cleaning kit you see in the before picture doesn’t belong in the kid’s bathroom closet. One of the kiddos left it there the other day when they did their cleaning chore.

IMG_3894

This is how i organize their bathroom closet, from top to bottom…

  • Top shelf is for extra shower curtains. (not pictured)
  • Beach towels are on the next shelf. (not pictured)
  • Regular everyday towels and hand towels are on the next shelf together.
  • My daughter’s stuff is on the next shelf… her jewelry box, hair stuff, etc.
  • Extra mouthwash, soap and things like that are on the next shelf together.
  • Finally i keep a box ,with extra toothbrushes and toothpaste in it, on the bottom.

Now i’m sharing my 3 year old and 6 year old’s bedroom closet.

IMG_3902

It’s not that bad either. I try to go through it at least once a month, so it doesn’t get out of control.

IMG_3906

Here is how i organize their bedroom closet…

  • I use the top shelf for extra blankets
  • I keep my daughters clothes on one side, and i keep them organized by what she wears most often up front and clothes she doesn’t wear that often in the back.
  • Empty hangers are in the middle for use for either kid.
  • Then my son’s clothes are on the other side, and i also keep the clothes he wears most often in front and those not worn that often, or don’t quite fit him yet in back.

Well, now i have 2 clean closets, and only like 10 more to go….Wish me luck! And be sure to check back again tomorrow for day 3 of my spring clean series!
