Spring Clean Series {Day 3 – Laundry Room}

I’m back with day 3 of my Spring Clean Series!

Today i’m sharing my laundry room with you all.

Because our laundry room leads out to the garage, this area gets a lot of traffic. With kids coming in and out of the garage, to go outside and play. This area becomes a dump all; shoes, toys, jackets, etc. can be found laying around here at any given time.

I can’t blame it all on the kids though, i’m guilty myself of dumping out receipts (and anything else) from my purse here.

Here is how i usually organize my laundry room:

  • Keep extra: cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, and diapers up on the high shelf.
  • On the lower shelf i keep: diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer (when kids come in from playing with friends they immediately sanitize their hands), laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc.

It feels good to have a clean and organized laundry room, even though it will probably only stay clean & organized for like 5 minutes.

Spring Clean Series {Day 2 – Closets}

Hey Guys!

I’m back for day 2 of my spring clean series, and today i’m tackling closets!

I have so many closets in my house, that trying to cover them all in this blog post would be difficult and probably extremely boring for you.

So, in an effort to keep this short and sweet, i’m going to share just a few of them and my method for organizing them (just like yesterday’s pantry post).

I’ll start with my kid’s bathroom closet…

It’s really not in that bad of shape, i try to go in there every few weeks and tidy it back up. Today is a laundry day (what day isn’t a laundry day in our household of 7), so their towels are being washed. I grabbed a few that we cleaned and folded them to show where they would go in their closet.

Also, that cleaning kit you see in the before picture doesn’t belong in the kid’s bathroom closet. One of the kiddos left it there the other day when they did their cleaning chore.

This is how i organize their bathroom closet, from top to bottom…

  • Top shelf is for extra shower curtains. (not pictured)
  • Beach towels are on the next shelf. (not pictured)
  • Regular everyday towels and hand towels are on the next shelf together.
  • My daughter’s stuff is on the next shelf… her jewelry box, hair stuff, etc.
  • Extra mouthwash, soap and things like that are on the next shelf together.
  • Finally i keep a box ,with extra toothbrushes and toothpaste in it, on the bottom.

Now i’m sharing my 3 year old and 6 year old’s bedroom closet.

It’s not that bad either. I try to go through it at least once a month, so it doesn’t get out of control.

Here is how i organize their bedroom closet…

  • I use the top shelf for extra blankets
  • I keep my daughters clothes on one side, and i keep them organized by what she wears most often up front and clothes she doesn’t wear that often in the back.
  • Empty hangers are in the middle for use for either kid.
  • Then my son’s clothes are on the other side, and i also keep the clothes he wears most often in front and those not worn that often, or don’t quite fit him yet in back.

Spring Clean Series {Day 1 – Pantry}

Hi Guys!

This week i’m starting a new series. It’s going to be all about decluttering/minimizing/organizing/cleaning all the trouble areas in my house.

Today i’m tackling the pantry, because let’s be honest, the pantry is my most trouble area.

I don’t know about you guys, but my pantry pretty much looks like a disaster area 24/7. I try to keep it somewhat organized, but i have 4 kids that grab whatever they want out of it and hardly ever return said item(s) to their original space.

Today i’m sharing how crazy my pantry really is with you guys, and how i attempt to keep it organized.

Here is how i organize my pantry:

  • Baking Stuff together – Flour, sugar, baking powder, etc.
  • Spices/oils/syrups/PB together – extra salt, extra seasonings, soy sauce, evoo, bread crumbs, etc.
  • Rice & Beans – I keep them in a corner together
  • Canned goods together – I also keep pasta with the canned goods
  • Snacks/Breads/Cereal together – Tortillas, chips, crackers, snacks, bagels, bread, etc.
  • Plastic/Paper goods – Paper plates, ziploc bags, plastic forks and spoons, etc.
  • Potatoes & Onions together – I also keep big containers of Vegetable oil here as well.
  • Small kitchen appliances together – crock pots, griddle, etc.

 

The top area of my pantry is for overflow items or things we want to keep out of reach of children. We also store things up there that we don’t use that often.

That’s it! That’s my pantry organizing. Whew, it feels so much better to have a organized pantry!

I threw away a lot of stuff that was empty and or expired.

And because we are moving, i was also able to box up some stuff that we won’t be using for awhile and that helped make my pantry look less cluttered.

House News, Homeschooling, and more… {Real Life Update}

Hi Guys!

So, last week in my house hunting post, i talked about how i wanted to do a real life update about once a week to keep you all updated on the many different things going on in our life. Well, today is the day. I have some new news about the house and just some other things i thought i would share.

I’ll start with house news first because that’s what i am most excited about. Things are going great right now. Last time i updated you all, we had the inspection done and that was great.

This week we got the appraisal done, which is a major thing for the bank to continue on with the underwriting process. Like we were at a standstill until the appraisal was completed. So yay, appraisal was done and it was great as well!

The house we are buying has it’s own septic system and private well, both of which are getting tested for quality, etc. Today we heard back about the septic system, and everything is good with it.

So that whole process is continuing on and doing well.

Homeschooling is going well, we have finished up several subjects as we are nearing the end of our school year, only 5 more weeks to go!

The school room is actually all packed up for our impending move, so we have been doing our school work at the dinning room table. And sometimes the boys like to work in their room, where it is a little less noisy.

I’m going to start planning for next school year very soon. I’m excited to make some changes and try out different curriculum.

I’m in the middle of reading Wild and Free, and although i never do this, i felt compelled to grab out my highlighter and highlight different passages that spoke to me. I’m on page 95 as of right now and it’s a pretty great book so far!

I shared on Easter that Karina was sick, well the sickness has slowly been trickling through the family. It started with Lincoln, then went to Samuel, up next Karina got it, now Dasean is dealing with it. I’m hoping it will spare Cruz, my husband and myself. *fingers crossed*

Cleaning Schedule {Free Printable}

When was the last time i vacuumed? When was the last time i washed that bedding? When was the last time i cleaned that toilet? These are all questions i have asked myself.

I’m a busy mom of 5 kids.

I homeschool them.

I run my husband’s small business.

I also have this little blog over here that i try to keep up with.

My plate is full.

So with cleaning & keeping up with the when was the last time i did this or that, is really hard to remember it all.

That’s why i decided to create a cleaning schedule. Something that wasn’t too complicated. One where i focus on a particular task each day.

Here is what my cleaning schedule looks like:

  • Mop It Monday* – Mopping, vacuuming, etc. (everything that has to do with floors)
  • Toilet Tuesday – Deep clean bathrooms (dust, toilets, mirrors, etc.)
  • Wash It Wednesday – Wash all bedding.
  • Throw It Away Thursday – Organize/declutter paperwork, etc. (toss junk mail, file paperwork, etc.)
  • Fantastic Fridge Friday – Clean out fridge & pantry.

Monday – Friday i have a new specific cleaning goal. Of course some things aren’t mentioned on the above list, like the everyday stuff (take out garbage, make beds, tidy up, do dishes).

I actually did research on how often you should clean before i came up with this list, and even Martha Stewart agrees with me when it comes to washing bedding, cleaning toilets, and vacuuming.

*Note: Just thought i would add in a little note here, that your high traffic areas probably will need vacuuming more than once a week. Also if you have small children you might have to mop your floors more than once a week as well.*

Since starting this new cleaning schedule, i feel like my house is cleaner. I also no longer have days where i’m like shoot i forgot to clean the toilet.┬áPlus it’s kind of a fun and easy schedule to remember.
